FEELING ABOUT THE TRIP TO THAILAND, By Miss Hoang Thuong Huyen

If I am asked to use a word to describe my trip to Thailand, of all the beautiful words, I will choose the word “Wonderful”! This is the first time I have an opportunity to join an international conference and this is also the first time I travel to a foreign nation. I’ve just known about Thailand through multimedia, so I was quite nervous and I thought that I might suffer from somewhat culture shock. However, I realized what I had worried about was totally wrong when I visited your country, your university and interacted directly with your culture and your people.

I was strongly impressed by the considerateness as well as the hospitality of people in your country, especially people from Rajabhat Maha Sarakham University. On the very first moment when we arrived in Thailand, we received a warm welcome from Mr.Nhon and other people of your university. Although I was quite exhausted after a long journey, I was still comfortable thanks to the enthusiasm and friendliness that I felt from them. On the way to the hotel, we were brought to Ho Chi Minh’s house and Ho Chi Minh memorial. Nothing could express my feeling at that time. How touched I was when I could stand in the place in which our beloved President used to live and work. How happy I was when I could see the relics that were very close to our Uncle Ho were maintained carefully by your country and listened to stories related to Uncle Ho told by Thai people. I was so grateful for what you do to reserve everything related to our President and thank you for the sentiment and respect that Thai citizens spend for President Ho Chi Minh – our beloved leader. After finishing visiting the two destinations, we were brought to the hotel and thanks to their kindly support, we met no difficulty on the way to the hotel. Besides, the accommodation that you prepared for us was very excellent and I was really satisfied with everything from the atmosphere to the services as well as the facilities.

On the second day, we had the chance to visit your university and your library. I got the impression from the wide campus of your university as well as the architecture of some building. I was also happy to find out that Vietnamese is one of the subjects that has been taught at your university. Furthermore, when visiting the library, I was strongly impressed by the presentation given by the staffs. Thanks to them, I knew more tales about your King and his marvelous inventions. When I was in Vietnam, I had learned something about him from the news and when I visited Thailand and listened to the stories about him, I totally understood the reasons why Thai peoples respect and love him that way. He is a true genius and a brilliant King. I really admired him.

On the day that the conference took place, it can be said that I’ve never attended in such an excellent conference before with regards to the formality and scale. At the age of 24, this is the biggest conference I’ve ever attended. During the conference, I had a unique opportunity to meet many researchers coming from different locations especially the two outstanding keynote speakers and acquire knowledge about a number of fields in terms of science. I was really satisfied with your university’s considerateness from the very tiny things such as serving breakfast for audiences to bigger things such as organizing the conference carefully. I had a very good memory with Thai friends. Before giving my presentation, I felt quite nervous because I was the youngest person in the room and it was the first time I presented in such an international conference. However, with the encouragement from other presenters and Dr.Suthinee, who contacted me through email when I was in Vietnam, I completed my presentation quite successfully and had an opportunity to receive some useful recommendations from the committee.

Attending the Welcome Party held at your university, I was surprised by the cozy atmosphere that you offered to everyone. I was happy because I perceived that the relationship between your university with Vietnamese universities, colleges, institutes, and organizations is very close-knit and strong. At that time, it seemed that everyone was members of a great home, we share many things, sang and danced together. Also during the party, I made more friends with the support of Dr.Suthinee and Dr. Manassawin, which helped me to open my relationship with many wonderful new friends. It was amazing!

On the last day we stayed in Thailand, we had the chance to enjoy the trip to Kosum Phisai, which was kindly held by your university. I could decide this is one of the most special things that your university offered us and this trip is also one of the most wonderful trips that I’ve ever enjoyed. Thanks to the enthusiasm of Dr. Craig, Dr.Supasorn, and other staffs, we were carefully taken care of and had a safe and meaningful journey. I had the chance to visit “Pra-Ming-Muang”, Kosumphi Monkey Forest and Suan Sawan Art Gallery. At the Gallery, I had a good chance to contemplate many masterpieces drawn on the silk by the talented artist. I felt so sorry to know that such genius passed away at a very young age. However, it is undeniable that his works are really brilliant and inspirable. Leaving the gallery we also visited Esan Navel Points, “Don-Pra-Tane” and the last destination was Boeing-Gui, which was the most unforgettable experience in my mind. First of all, I was really impressed by the hospitality of people in that location. Because of some problems before the trip, we arrived 2 hours later than expected, therefore, local people from children to elder generation had to wait for us in the very hot weather and we were really sorry for that. However, they still smiled brightly and greeted us warmly with Vietnamese. When I apologized for some inconvenience we brought to them, they just said that “we were here for you. You’re welcome”, which made me develop strong feelings for them. They brought us some beautiful traditional dances and performances. I was also taught how to dance with them, how to make silk from silk nests and was served much delicious traditional food. I found local residents familiar with Vietnamese rural residents – really kind, friendly and honest. Some students also told me that we are the first group of foreigners that visited their village and they liked it. At the end of the trip, we were served a delicious dinner with local food on the bamboo bridge. Having dinner in a cozy atmosphere created by local residents’ hospitality, under the lights of candles and in the gentle breeze was a spectacular scene that I will never forget in my life.

To conclude, although I just lived in Thailand for a short time, I think that I fell in love with this beautiful country, with people in this location. Thanks to your considerateness, I had the chance to broaden my horizon, to learn more about your culture, education, your people, and expand my relationship.

Thank you very much for every amazing thing you have been bringing to us!

From now on, I have Thai friends who are looking forward to welcoming me to Thailand again, which makes me feel comfortable when thinking of. As a result, I strongly believe in the development and the certain success of the globalization. It can be said that after the trip, I consider Thailand as my second hometown and this will be the destination that I will visit frequently in the future.
